Planned Parenthood Texas is challenging Texas over a plan to remove its clinics from the state’s Medicaid program. This would include $4.2 million in Medicaid funding.

Last month state health officials announced that women visiting Planned Parenthood locations throughout the state for family planning care would no longer be eligible for reimbursement under Medicaid.

Chief external affairs officer Sarah Wheat for Planned Parenthood Texas said that care is crucial to many of the state’s poorest women.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 17 in U.S. District Court in Austin.

Similar efforts to separate Planned Parenthood from Medicaid have been blocked by courts in Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana and Mississippi Wheat said.
