Police started and investigation on Sept. 5, 2019, after an officer-involved shooting on Main at 3rd Street in Teague.

TEAGUE, Texas — A Teague police officer shot at a man who had attacked him with a wooden rod Thursday morning, according to the Teague Police Department.

Police said the man was at Teague City Hall shaking his rod at city staff and declaring that he owned the BNSF railroad and Wells Fargo bank.

After the staff called police, they said he left the building and began marching around and yelling in the parking lot.

Once an officer arrived, the man attacked the officer and broke his rod on the officer, police said.

Police said the officer used his taser on the man but it was not effective so he fired his weapon. Police did not say if the man was shot.

The officer was taken to the hospital but was expected to be okay.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital. Police did not give the extent of his injuries.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, which is the department's standard practice when an officer fires a weapon.

The Texas Rangers will be the lead agency on the investigation.
