'Taste of the Holidays' fundraiser raises money for scholarships, service projects in Temple

More than 650 people gathered in the Mayborn Center for the 62nd iteration of the "Taste of the Holidays" fundraiser. Proceeds will go toward scholarships and service projects in Temple.

TEMPLE, Texas — Altrusa International of Temple is a nonprofit organization that supports multiple scholarships and service projects in the city every year, spokeswoman Kelli Alsup said.

The organization held its annual "Taste of the Holidays" fundraiser Thursday to keep the non-profit operating.

"We go twice a week to the Central Texas Children's Center and read," Alsup said. "We work with Kids Against Hunger, Camp Dreamcatcher, Our Lady of Angels Maternity Shelter, lots of different projects."

More than 650 people gathered in the Mayborn Center for the 62nd iteration of the fundraiser.

Guests enjoyed a full Christmas dinner for lunch, entered a raffle for prizes and enjoyed a fashion show that included Channel 6 morning anchor Heidi Alagha.

The nonprofit raised money through ticket sales and sponsors, in addition to the raffle.

The organization said it hopes to raise around $55,000 from Thursday's event.
