Unidentified body found after Belton home was engulfed in flames, destroyed

BELTON, Texas — A Belton home was destroyed by a fire Saturday, according to Belton Public Information Officer Paul Romer.

A 9-1-1 caller reported seeing smoke and embers near the 4600 block of Toll Bridge Rd. at around 3:39 a.m. Saturday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they found a house fully engulfed in flames, according to Romer.

A preliminary investigation by the Belton Fire Department ruled that the fire was accidental/undetermined.

The home, located about a quarter-mile off Toll Bridge Road, was destroyed by the fire. A body was found in the rubble and was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to help identify the body.
