UPDATE: Round Rock man who received life-saving kidney recovering after surgery

Frank Cantrell is doing well and taking his recovery one day at a time, his family said. Cantrell said he's looking forward to drinking beer in the Caribbean.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — After dealing with health problems and kidney failure for almost a decade, a Round Rock man has been given a second chance at life.

Frank Cantrell searched for a matching kidney donor for years, and it turned out his sister-in-law was a match.

Janice Berryman made the trip from Idaho to Texas and followed through on the huge sacrifice.

It's only been a few days since the operation, but the pair said they've never felt better.

"I give my kidney without reservation and to live his life the fullest that he can," Berryman said.

The duo said God's grace has brought them to this point.

"I feel 100 percent better. I can't imagine feeling any better," Cantrell said.

During the nine years of making regular hospital trips, following strict diets and relying on medication, Cantrell said he wasn't sure if he was ever going to find a donor.

"Nothing can take it's place," he said. "There's no substitute... She's my sister now."

His family said he's taking it one day at a time, but he's eager to plan a family vacation, since the last one was cancelled because of his medical condition.

"The Caribbean, I like the Caribbean," Cantrell said. "Give me sun and sand, and I'm gonna have a cold beer."

The two said they're thankful for the caring and attentive staff at Baylor Scott and White Hospital that helped them throughout this process.
