WACO, Texas — At about 1:30 Wednesday afternoon Waco officers responded to the Trendwood Apartments in reference to a possible shooting. The officers learned that a silver sedan was possibly involved in that shooting.

At that time, an officer in the area noticed a silver Dodge sedan near Turner St. and Lenox. Only a few blocks away from the apartments. He attempted to pull the vehicle over, however, the vehicle fled.

The car chase went from Turner and Lenox to Waco Dr. It crossed the Brazos River and eventually ended at W Waco Dr. and Novelty when the vehicle crashed into a light pole.

After the crash, the driver fled on foot and was caught a block away after he tries to throw marijuana down on the ground. The front seat passenger of the vehicle was cooperative with officers and eventually released. There were also two children in the back seat, who were given to a relative and eventually taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Devonte Wright,24, of Waco, was later identified as the driver of the sedan and arrested and charged with evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, tampering with physical evidence, two counts of abandoning/endangering a child, possession of marijuana, and was also booked in on 18 Traffic Warrants.

Officers later learned that Wright's vehicle was not involved in the shooting at Trendwood.
