Waco police are working multiple cases where scammers are wiping money from victims’ accounts.
Officials said the victims have all been Hispanic and Spanish speaking in the latest telemarketer scam.
Individuals claiming to work for Oncor have been contacting the victims telling them their electrical service is going to be suspended due to payment issues.
Police said the victims are told the issue can be resolved if they purchase some type of gift card and call back with the information. Once the information is obtained the gift card balance is taken by suspects.
Victims are then called back and the suspects are saying that the payment did not go through and additional money will need to be sent.
Waco police are advising the public to not fall for this scam.
