Waco woman sentenced to 35 years for double murder at Harker Heights club

A Waco woman convicted of killing two men at a Harker Heights club in 2017 was sentenced to 35 years.

HARKER HEIGHT, Texas — A 29-year-old Waco woman convicted of shooting and killing two men at a Harker Heights club in 2017 was sentenced to 35 years Tuesday.

Olishea Lashawn Smith was put in jail on a $1 million bond when she surrendered to police days after a murder warrant was issued for her arrest in March 2017.

The two men were found dead in Club Empire when police responded to a shooting at the business. They were later identified as Dexter Lamont Prather, 42, of Waco and Damion Duane Hopkins, 27, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Officials said an investigation into the shooting found Prather and Hopkins had gotten into an "altercation" while playing dice before five rounds were fired, hitting the two men.
