FORT HOOD, Texas — After spending 30 years in the United States Army, a Fort Hood Command Major is saying farewell in a unique way. She said her decision to go to the army had a huge impact on her family.
Sgt. Maj. Stephanie Price and her sisters have 86 years of combined Army service under their belts. They said the Army was their ticket to a better life. Now, they are paving the way for the next generation.
"How many people can actually say all of their sisters are in the military?” Price said. "For them to come here, as well as my niece, and say, 'We got you sis.' That’s what they did for me today."
Price is the oldest of the Price sisters.
Lt. Col. Annie Lee is the middle child and 1st Sgt. Sandra Price is the baby of the bunch. Both said they were inspired to join the Army because of their big sister.
"These two were my stepping stones,” Sandra Price said. “Times were hard, but I decided to go to the army too."
It doesn't stop there. The three sisters now have daughters who are also soldiers.
"We continue to talk even during deployments or when we are not in the same state," Lee said.
There was not a dry eye in the house Monday as Command Sgt. Maj. Price had her last luncheon. Price said she’s a firm believer in taking care of soldiers, and a firm believer in taking care of family.
"The Army has taken care of me,” Price said. "The Army has taken care of my sisters as well, so life is good."
Each sister credits their success to their mother who took care of the grandkids while they were fighting for our country.
