What's the cut rule at the Masters? Some big-name players in danger of missing it

The field at the Masters will be trimmed after the second round to the top 50 players on the leaderboard.

What's the cut rule at the Masters?

The top 50 scores including ties, or any player within 10 strokes of the lead, will qualify for the weekend. The rule was changed to its current form beginning in 2013, before that it was top 44 and those within 10 strokes of the leader.

More interesting facts about the cut at the Masters:

Jack Nicklaus holds the record with most cuts made at 37 and Gary Player and Fred Couples each made 23 consecutive cuts, according to the tournament's record book.

After missing the last two Masters, Tiger Woods has a streak of 18 consecutive cuts made in this major. He actually has never missed a cut as a pro at Augusta National. The only time he missed the cut at the Masters was in 1996 as an amateur, four months before turning pro.

Since 1991, Phil Mickelson has missed the cut at the Masters only three times, with a streak of 17 consecutive cuts made that ended in 2014.

On Thursday, Woods shot 1-over 73 and Mickelson a 2-under 70.

The projected cut line, a moving target today, is currently at +4 after many of the early players have struggled and come back to the field.
