FORT HOOD, Texas — Two Fort Hood soldiers have been killed in separate training accidents just a day apart.
On Sunday, Spc. Andrew S. Ortega was killed in an accident at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany.
Ortega was a horizontal construction engineer with the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
The following night, Spc. Octavious DeShon Lakes, Jr. died his injuries after being in a tactical vehicle rollover at Fort Irwin, California. The was at the National Training Center.
Lakes, Jr. joined the Army in March 2017 as a combat engineer. He was assigned to the the 3rd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since June 2017.
Both deaths are currently under investigation.
