President Trump's national emergency declaration to use military money for wall

The Department of Defense will provide $3.5 billion from the military construction budget under the declaration.

FORT HOOD, Texas — President Trump declared a national emergency on Friday and does plan to use military money to pay for it, according to acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.

Mulvaney says the president plans to create an $8 billion dollar nest egg to build a wall along the southern border, after Congress failed to fully fund the $5.7 billion dollars he originally asked for.

Under Trump's declared national emergency, the Department of Defense will provide $2.5 billion from the military's fund for counter-narcotics activities and $3.5 billion from its construction budget.

As of Monday night, 16 states have sued the president over the declaration, and the American Civil Liberties Union also plans to file a lawsuit as well.
