Hewitt mayor accused of misconduct, city considers hiring outside law firm

Details are scarce, but the City of Hewitt says it's dealing with multiple formal complaints about Mayor Ed Passalugo.

Three formal complaints have been lodged against Hewitt Mayor Ed Passalugo, and the city is considering hiring lawyers to deal with them, the city announced Thursday.

One accuses Mayor Passalugo of official misconduct, though the city declined to go into specifics. The other two complaints were confidential, Hewitt City Manager Adam Miles said.

Hewitt City Council will hold a closed executive session at 6:30 p.m. Monday to discuss the complaints. And, council will consider hiring a law firm to conduct a third-party investigation.

"While this situation is complicated and difficult, we are working diligently to address these concerns in an open, transparent, and constructive manner," Miles wrote in a statement. “This situation is very difficult for some employees. I am proud of their continued efforts to deliver high quality service to Hewitt residents."

Miles asked for patience and understanding as the city works to get to the bottom of the situation.

No further details about the nature of the allegations were immediately released.
