Downtown Waco detours, closures announced ahead of Silo District Marathon weekend and I-35 construction

Here's a look ahead at the detours and closures you can expect in downtown Waco for April 27 and 28.

WACO, Texas — As Waco prepares for thousands of visitors for Chip and Joanna Gaines' second annual Silo District Marathon, the Waco Police Department announced which roads will be affected by the races.

Around 20,000 people are expected to visit the city over the weekend.

“We're pumped," Char Sibiga of Florida said. “This will be our second time running. We did it also last year, and obviously we love Chip and Joanna Gains, but we also love the cause and what this race benefits.”

Closures will start as early as 6 a.m. Saturday, April 27, and will last until the last runner passes the following afternoon.

Road closures can be seen on the map below. Saturday's closures are shown in yellow, and Sunday's are red. Click any line to see the approximate time the road section will be closed.

Southbound lanes on Hwy. 77 will also be closed from Exit 484 to S. 3rd St.

I-35 exits 335B Northbound, 335C North and Southbound, and 335 C Southbound will all be closed Sunday from 7-9 a.m.

WPD posted a map of the detour routes to Facebook.

Starting Sunday, more construction will begin on I-35, police said. There will be various southbound lane closures from North Loop 340 to 12th Street, as well as other lane closures starting near Dutton Avenue and Behrens Circle.

Police said to use Exit 335B for University Parks Drive, since southbound exit 335A for Fourth and Fifth streets will be closed.

The marathon and half marathon officially begin 7 a.m. April 28. Both races will start and end at the Silos.

The 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. the same day. The 5K is set to begin at 3rd St. and Mary Ave. near the Brazos river and end at the Silos.

More information about the race is available on the Magnolia website.
