Baylor's Wendzel taken 41st overall by Rangers

With Wendzel's selection, the Bears had two first-round draft

ARLINGTON, Texas — Another Baylor Bear is off the board in the 2019 MLB Draft.

With the 41st overall pick in the first round, the Texas Rangers took BU junior third baseman Davis Wendzel.

Wendzel, Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, was taken in the same round, by the same club as Texas Tech junior 3B Josh Jung, with whom Wendzel shared the honor.

It's the first time in program history Baylor had two players selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft, after catcher Shea Langeliers was taken ninth overall by the Atlanta Braves.

In 2019, Wendzel hit a Big 12-leading .367 batting average to go with 8 home runs and 42 RBI's.

Wendzel, a native of San Clemente, California, was selected in the 37th round of the 2018 draft, but opted to return to Waco for the 2019 season.
