China Spring junior a finalist for U.S. Army Pro Football Hall of Fame Award of Excellence

Malori Brown, a junior at China Spring High School, was awarded a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Waco — As NFL hopefuls look to hear their names called in Arlington, Malori Brown, a junior at China Spring High School was awarded a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"It means everything because it means everything my family and I have been working for has finally paid off," Brown said.

Brown was named one of 25 finalists for the award nationwide which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics and community service. She's in the top 10 percent of her class and competes in rifle as a precision shooter with dreams beyond Canton and China Spring.

"Hopefully a rifle scholarship with an NCAA team," Brown said. "I want to win an NCAA championship."

But when she got the call, she thought it was a joke.

Brown said the person on the phone who told her she was a finalist was so energetic, she thought it was a prank call.

But when she figured out it wasn't - elation ensued.

"My mom got super excited," Brown said.

Seated next to her as she waited Thursday, former Baylor Bear Mike Singletary.

Singletary, also a pro football hall of Famer, said he was impressed.

"She's just very focused on what she wants to say, what she wants to do and you can see why she is a success," Singletary said.

Brown will find out if she won the award at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend in August.
