The Friday Night Lights matchup between the Riesel Indians and the Itasca Cats took a bizarre turn after officials failed to show up, according to Riesel ISD.

The district said its high school football coaches correctly followed the procedures for requesting referees, but they didn't come to the game. So, Riesel ISD was forced to forfeit the game.

"We also want to apologize to you for the events at tonight's ballgame," Riesel ISD wrote in a Facebook post.

Friday's game would have been the last district game before the Indians began their playoff run.

"The football team put in hard work this week and were ready to go out and show that Indian Pride," the district wrote on Facebook.

Friday was senior night at Riesel ISD stadium, according to the district.
