Former Baylor Assistant Athletic Director says he's been exonerated

One of the people who lost his job in the wake of the Baylor fallout has been cleared of wrongdoing.

Longtime Baylor Assistant Athletic Director Tom Hill, who was fired in 2016, said he has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Reached by phone Monday, Hill said Baylor University General Counsel Christopher Holmes visited his Central Texas home Sunday and told him and his supporters that he was exonerated in the sexual assault scandal that led to his firing. The scandal's fallout also led to the removal of fellow Assistant Athletic Director Colin Shillinglaw, the resignation of Athletic Director Ian McCaw, and the departure of Baylor President Ken Starr.

"I maintained my innocence and non-involvement since the beginning," Hill told Channel 6 by phone.

Hill said Baylor's house call was more of an exoneration than an apology. But, he did not want to say anything negative about the University.

"I'm just happy to be closing this chapter," he explained.

In 2017, a judge threw out Hill's federal lawsuit against the Pepper Hamilton Law Firm, which handled Baylor's sexual assault investigation. Hill had claimed Pepper Hamilton defamed him and ultimately spurred his termination by incorrectly linking him to the scandal.

Today, Hill is president of the Waco BlueCats baseball team.

Baylor University did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
