UMHB football ranked first in both Top 25 polls

The Cru is ranked #1 for the fourth consecutive week

BELTON, Texas — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team held on to its #1 ranking in both of the two major NCAA Division III Top 25 Polls again this week. The Cru (5-0, 4-0 ASC) is coming off a 50-14 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday.

The Cru is ranked #1 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll for the fourth consecutive week to open the season. The Cru received 43 first-place votes and 1,288 total points from the AFCA.

Mount Union holds down the #2 spot again with 10 first-place votes and 1,282 total points. Wisconsin-Whitewater, Saint John’s (MN) and Wheaton (Ill.) round out the top five in that poll. Hardin-Simmons University moved up three spots to #17 in the AFCA poll with 445 points. Texas Lutheran University also received votes worth 55 points to give the ASC three programs receiving mention.

“Our guys were really ready to play on Saturday and I thought we did some things really well,” head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We have some areas where we need to improve and we will focus on that this week as we get ready to play another big football game.”

UMHB also held on to the top spot in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. The Cru took 18 first-place votes and 617 total points. 

Mount Union is also #2 in that ranking with seven first-place votes and 603 total points. Wisconsin-Whitewater is #3, Saint John’s (MN) comes in at #4 and Wheaton (Ill.) rounds out the top five. Hardin-Simmons held steady at #17 in the D3football.com poll and Texas Lutheran received votes worth 50 points.

The Cru will hit the road to face Southwestern University in a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in Georgetown on Saturday. The Pirates are 3-2 overall and 2-2 in ASC play on the season.
