BELTON, Texas — The Charter Oak bridge in Belton will close Friday night at 7 p.m. and remain closed until 7 a.m. Monday., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The bridge crosses the Leon River near Heritage Park. The closure will allow crews to sandblast, clean and resurface the bridge deck, according to TxDOT.
Once the bridge reopens Monday, TxDOT said the temporary traffic signals will be removed and traffic will return to two-way across the bridge. TxDOT said the bridge deck and approaches will still need to be striped, involving brief temporary lane closures as well as guardrail installation.
The project to rehabilitate the bridge began in February. Crews have cleaned and painted the steel, as well as reinforced the concrete substructure, according to TxDOT. They expect it to be completed by late fall or early winter of 2018.
