Driver injured in head-on crash involving Temple Police vehicle

Police believe the man fell asleep at the wheel, which caused the accident, they said.

TEMPLE, Texas — At least one person was injured during a head-on collision involving a Temple Police Department vehicle Tuesday morning, according to the Temple PD.

Temple PD said the crash happened around 8:25 a.m. in the 7200 block of Airport Road near Temple Fire Station 8.

The 40-year-old male driver in the civilian vehicle was reportedly driving east on Airport Road and crossed the westbound lanes, striking the police vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the road, police said in a release.

The man was transported to Baylor Scott & White with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer was being evaluated for possible injuries and wasn't transported to the hospital, police said.

Police believe the man fell asleep, which caused the accident, police said.
