Police identifies pedestrian struck, killed in Waco

The Waco Police Department said 61-year-old Ronald Lee Haynes was trying to cross the highway when he was struck, killed.

WACO, Texas — The Waco Police Department identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle after reportedly trying to cross the highway Wednesday night.

The department said one of its officers was flagged down by a motorist in the 200 block of West Highway 6 in Waco. The driver told the officer that, while driving their Chevy Tahoe, they believe they struck a pedestrian who tried to cross the highway, police said.

The officer then looked in the area, found the victim and called the American Medical Response to the scene.

Police said the man's injuries were too severe and he died.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Ronald Lee Haynes. The driver's identity wasn't released and police say there are no charges at this time.
