Central Texas roads still dangerous on third day of ice storm

Icy roads continued to cause accidents and force closures around the area.

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen police urged caution for drivers Wednesday as freezing rain continued to create dangerous driving conditions.

Through its Facebook page, the department said I-14 and State Highway 195 were drivable but said drivers needed to take it very slow.

"The roadways on I-14 west of the Willow Springs overpass are worse, use extreme caution while driving," the post reads. "Officers have noticed that some roadways in the city are worse than others, so please avoid driving if [at] all possible."

Belton police didn't take kindly to an email they received from someone asking them to "put the donuts down and work."

The department pointed out on its Facebook page that at least two officers had been hit while working traffic accidents in Texas.

Copperas Cove police closed the following streets.

  • Pecan Cove Drive
  • Ogletree Pass
  • Ash Street
  • Colorado Drive
  • Freedom Lane
  • Mueller Street
  • Bonnie Lane/Dryden Avenue
  • N 7th St/Geri Drive
  • Veterans Avenue
  • Terrace Drive
  • Veterans Avenue (on top of the hill)

Bellmead police posted pictures of a truck that went off the road at the Katy overpass bridge on Bellmead Dr.

"Avoid the area if possible," the post read. "We are working with the state to get it salted to help."

Waco police asked people to avoid areas around Lakeshore Dr, I-35, Waco Dr. over Highway 77 Herring and MLK bridges.
