TEXAS, USA — Road conditions are one of the most important factors to keep in mind when temperatures and precipitation combine.

Things like rain, snow and freezing fog, when combined with other factors like projected multiple days of temperatures below freezing, mean road conditions can quickly become rough for a lot of the area.

Travel is strongly discouraged when the roads get icy, especially .

Organizations like TxDOT have been doing plenty of work to try and treat the roads, making them more drivable and less dangerous for those who have to be out.

For those who absolutely have to be out and about during the winter weather, TxDOT also has a website to help you stay informed.

DriveTexas.org provides up to date highway conditions year-round for things like construction work, accidents and more.

The website also includes weather factors such as flooding or icy roads.

During winter weather, anything on the website that has a snowflake on it or is grayed out is considered icy and hazardous at the moment.

So if you absolutely must get out during icy road conditions, remember to slow down, keep your eyes on the road and check the road conditions before you put the keys in the ignition.
