TxDOT to prepare Central Texas highways for possible freezing temperatures

All counties in the Waco District, including Bell and McLennan, will be treated with a brine solution.

WACO, Texas — Texas Department of Transportation crews will treat highways in the Waco district with a brine solution ahead of possible freezing temperatures beginning Monday, according to a TxDOT news release.

The brine lowers the freezing point of moisture on the road to help prevent ice from forming.

Crews will primarily treat structures like bridges and overpasses on I-35, I-14 and state and U.S. highways, TxDOT said. The counties in the Waco district include Bell, McLennan, Hill, Coryell, Limestone, Hamilton, Falls and Bosque.

TxDOT said it would continue to monitor the forecast and adjust its plans as necessary.

According to the 6 News weather team, most of Central Texas will see rain beginning Monday but temperatures were expected to remain above freezing.
