'We just hid, and I started praying' | Severe weather leaves behind extensive damage in China Spring

Fences blew away and roofs were torn off in the Falcon Pointe neighborhood. Central Texans worked together to pick up the pieces.

WACO, Texas — Devastation hit a China Spring neighborhood on Friday, April 26. Homeowners and witnesses believe a tornado may have touched down for around five minutes in Falcon Pointe.

Throughout the neighborhood, fences were blown over, scraps were all over the ground and roofs were torn off. There was even a trampoline in a powerline.

Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries and everyone is safe so far.

Uriel Martinez is only 8 years old and recounted the moments before the storm hit.

"My sister saw stuff flying around, and she told us to go to the middle closet," Martinez said. "There's no windows there, and we just hid in there. I prayed. It was quiet and then we just, we went outside in the backyard, we saw fences, sheds, blown over."

Neighbors say this storm brought back memories of the hail storm they faced last year in 2023.

"It was a year ago today when we had that grapefruit-sized hail," China Spring resident Sarah Dodds told 6 News. "I would say about 90% of our roofs have been replaced in the last year, and so this is the anniversary of that. I don't think we had a lot of hail but obviously the tornado came through and all the fences are bad and some of the houses. So it's kind of just wrapping your head around it. It kind of got to me a little bit, just realizing that it happened."

Dodds' 11-year-old son Thomas says he was freaked out by what happened, but his focus was making sure everyone was okay.

"When I got home, I was looking at the damage, and I was seeing who all needed help," Thomas Dodds said. "I was riding on my bike picking up rubbage."

Central Texans are going to continue to lean on each other and help their neighbors as they pick up the pieces.
