6 months later: Waco mother hangs billboard to honor son, hopes it will find killer

"Keep Tony's name alive because Tony's life matters."

Waco — A Waco mother is doing everything she can to find her son's killer. This week, Michelle Andrade hung a billboard on Valley Mills Drive and passed out flyers around town, hoping to get information in her son's death.

Andrade's son Tony Rivera, 19, was shot and killed in Waco in October. At the time, police said the shooting may have been connected to another shooting that happened that same night, but no new information has been released since then. And, there has been no arrest in the case.

"I just want answers -- why Tony? Was it an accident? Was he in the wrong place at the wrong time? I just want to know why Tony?" Andrade said.

Six months since Tony's death and one week before what would've been his 20th birthday, the family decided to hang the billboard on Valley Mills Drive. The family hopes the billboard will honor Tony's legacy, jog the memory of those who may know something and hopefully catch the eye of Tony's killer.

"I forgive whoever did this, but I just pray that you come forward and be honest about everything," Andrade said.

For Tony's younger sister Kayla Rivera, it's been difficult to come to terms with the tragedy.

"Me and my brother were like best friends, he would tell me everything. It's been hard trying to go on without him," Rivera said.

The family is leaning on God during this difficult time and said they hope the community will continue to support them as well.

"Keep Tony's name alive because Tony's life matters," Andrade said.

The family is currently working on a second billboard that is scheduled to go up next week.

Their church is also holding a community outreach event on Saturday, April 21. Aside from worship, Andrade will be there to talk with parents who have lost children and set up a booth to honor Tony as well.

An event flier is below. If you have any information that could help police with the case, call the Waco Police Department at 254-750-7500 or click here to submit an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip online.
