WACO — UPDATE: The suspect shot and killed by police on April 13 was identified as Kenneth Warren Resendez, 34, according to law enforcement. His body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy. The Waco Police Department's Special Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers were investigating Monday.

Waco police officers shot a male suspect armed with a knife who they believed was holding family members hostage inside a home in the 3800 block of Speight Avenue in Waco shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to law enforcement.
A family member inside the home called 911 around 8:38 a.m. to report the suspect hitting things in the house and threatening relatives inside, according to Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton.
Two officers entered the home, where they found someone else armed with a handgun and trying to protect the others from the suspect armed with the knife. Sgt. Swanton said the individual was pleading with the suspect not to harm anyone. And, police proceeded to ask that suspect to drop the knife, too, Swanton said.
At some point, one of the officers shot the suspect, who has been pronounced dead, Swanton said.
There were at least five adults inside the home at the time of the officer-involved shooting.
According to neighbors, a pastor lived inside the home. They say he told the congregation to pray for him because he was having issues with his older son.
No officers were injured. The officer who shot the suspect is on paid administrative leave. The Texas Rangers are also investigating.
