PD: Officer recovering after being kicked in the face by guy she was trying to help

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Leka, her family, and friends."

A male suspect, who tested positive for amphetamine and opioid in his system, kicked a Lacy Lakeview police sergeant squarely in her face, drawing blood, while she and four other officers tried to get the suspect medical help at the hospital believing he was having a psychotic episode, according to law enforcement.

The Lacy Lakeview Police Department said Sgt. Amanda Leka was dispatched to help an emergency medical crew deal with the suspect at 1:58 a.m. Tuesday. When police showed up, the suspect grew more combative and was in danger of hurting himself and others, the department said.

Sgt. Leka and three other officers secured the person and took him to the hospital. But once there, it took them and another officer to get the guy inside. Police said he kicked Sgt. Leka during that process, causing her severe pain and bleeding. Sgt. Leka was treated and released.

"Sergeant Leka has a lot of pain, bruising, and discoloration but will hopefully make a full recovery and return to duty on the job she loves," Lacy Lakeview Police wrote on Facebook.

Her department described Sgt. Leka as a tough police officer, who is also a wife and mother.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Leka, her family, and friends," the department said.
