WACO Connally High School will be the site for one of the largest Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) competitions of the year for Waco and Heart of Texas Area athletes this Saturday, April 21. The annual Area 12 Spring Games, an area-wide track and field meet, will be held for 415 children and adults from 12 nearby counties ranging in age from 8 to 69. Saturday’s events will begin with the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 a.m., followed by track and field events which will run from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Competitors 12 years old and up will be vying for a chance to qualify for the statewide track and field competition – Summer Games, which will be held at UT-Arlington from May 24-27.

This event is the second-largest competition put on for athletes in the Heart of Texas Area, only behind Bowling. To qualify for the Area 12 Spring Games, athletes must be at least eight years old and have spent a minimum of eight weeks training for their events.
