(KCEN) – With little sleep after Tuesday's election results, Republican Molly White is ready to hit the streets again to talk with voters on what issues matter the most.

In a surprise to many, White beat long time incumbent Ralph Sheffield in the Texas Representative District 55 race. Sheffield was first elected to the seat back in 2008.

"I'm disappointed by the voter turnout, but I'm honored to have served District 55," Sheffield said.

No Democratic candidate is running against White, so she will likely take over the District in January, and she already has big plans on issues she wants to tackle.

"Right now our state is $300 billion in debt. We've got to do something about that," she said. "We have to start cutting things that are not our responsibility to spend money on or things we might call wasteful spending."

She wants more transparency in agencies' budgets who receive funding from the state to see exactly how the money is being used and if it's being used properly.

White is also very vocal on pro-life issues, and spent 13 years as a grassroots activist. She also feels strongly about protecting gun rights. "The second amendment is huge in this area. We have those people who really love their guns, and so we need to work to make sure those rights are not infringed upon."

Vowing to never compromise on her conservatives values, White says she plans on talking with community leaders, military leaders, families and business professionals to see what issues they want voiced in Austin for the upcoming session.
