2 imprisoned Texans return home from Venezuelan custody

Both Berry and Denman are former U.S. Army Green Berets who were accused of trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government back in 2020.

SAN ANTONIO — Central Texan Luke Denman and Airan Berry of the Dallas area and are both no longer prisoners in Venezuelan custody. 

Both Berry and Denman are former U.S. Army Green Berets. They were accused of trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government back in 2020.

Berry and Denman were two of four prisoners delivered back to the U.S. via a covert landing site. Those four join six additional Americans who were returned late into the evening Wednesday Dec. 20 via a San Antonio airport. The six Americans returning through San Antonio are Eyvin Hernandez, Jerrel Kenemore, Joseph Cristella and Savoi Wright. The other two of the six names were withheld for privacy reasons. 

"Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I'm free at last," Wright said. "Very emotional. Exciting. Grateful. So much gratitude for the moment, for the United States of America, for all of you and for the opportunity to come home."

Venezuela also returned U.S. fugitive Leonard Francis, who escaped house arrest following fraud charges against the U.S. military.
