'I just want to make an extra buck:' Gateway High School teacher sells water on the road to earn summer cash

On Saturday, Gateway High School teacher Warren Grannis started selling bottled water for $1 before heading back to the classroom in the fall.

TEMPLE, Texas — It is common to have another job during the summer to earn a little extra money. One Killeen teacher is doing just that, but it's not a typical side hustle.

He's selling bottled water on the side of the road to people in cars stopped at a red light.

"There's no ulterior motives. I'm not trying to scam anyone. I just want to make an extra buck," Warren Grannis said.

Grannis decided to start this job to create his own hours.

"Kids are already busy swimming in the pool or whatever. I'll go out and make a buck," Grannis said.

He said he tries to sell two cases of water, and usually, it takes two and a half hours. He tries to take breaks when the light is green and jumps into action when the cars are stopped.

"That's about all I can physically handle before the heat starts setting in," Grannis said.

He said it passes the time and brings the school year a little bit closer.

"I do enjoy what I do whether it's teaching or this. I've met some very nice people. Very friendly," Grannis said.
