Shoppers, retail stores prepare for Black Friday holiday deals

While some East Texans have already completed their holiday shopping list, others are on standby for Black Friday sales.

TYLER, Texas — It's the season for holiday shopping and some East Texans may have already gotten ahead, but for others, Black Friday sales are just around the corner with multiple deals.

On Wednesday, many Tyler residents at the Broadway Square Mall mention apparel, electronics and even jewelry are on their holiday shopping lists.

Tyler resident Kathryn Williams said she shops for deals every Black Friday but this year she’s not too impressed.

"Everything is a lot more expensive and some of the deals don't seem as good as they did before," Williams said.

But for other shoppers like Tyler resident Andrew Hall the deals seem pretty appealing and enticing to come back to the mall this Friday.

"It's crazy man I've been seeing honestly a lot of the commercials for the stuff so the things around the mall here are 50, 60, or 70% off," Hall said. "So it's been amazing, the pricing they're doing out here I feel like it keeps getting cheaper and cheaper every year."

The major sales aren't just coming from major retailers, but also local businesses in the mall like Weird & Different. Owner of the brand Romereo Brown Jr said he has multiple deals going on with their apparel.

"We got buy one get one half-off on hoodies and we also got buy one graphic shirt and get the second one 30% off," Brown said.

This is Brown's third year at the mall and he said Black Friday sales add a big yearly spike in his revenue.

"It’s important because it helps companies sometimes," Brown said. "If your struggling throughout the year Black Friday will get people back to normal and good status. Or if you got plans for next year the extra revenue can help you grow your company quicker."

Over at Academy Sports + Outdoors in Tyler, hardlines manager Ruth Nutt said shoppers have been consistent this week but they are ready to their major sales coming up.

"Like 50% off, there's some tables here game tables, we have apparel and sell lots of ammunition and firearms," Nutt said.

The sports store has already had certain sales in place throughout the week, so for early shoppers like Tyler resident Clint League they are taking full advantage of it.

"I think people started posting them a week early which is really nice," League said. "It kind of gets you where you can get in and get things without having to hit that one day of the traffic and the long lines. We've got everything from groceries and a lot of Christmas stuff done. So it's nice."

This Friday the Broadway Square Mall will be opening at 6 a.m. and Academy will open their doors at 5 a.m.
