WACO, Texas — In a celebration of spirit and inclusivity, the Heart O' Texas Volunteer Rodeo Committee hosted its annual Special Ranch Rodeo this past weekend. The event provided a unique experience for children aged three to sixteen with physical and developmental challenges, allowing them to live out their cowboy and cowgirl dreams in a supportive and joyous environment.
Committee member Charlie Finley expressed his passion for the event.
"It puts a smile on my face to help these kids fulfill some of their dreams," Finley told 6 News. "Every little kiddo wants to play cowboys, but for some with disabilities, it's not always possible. We allow them to come out and play in the same arena where world champion cowboys and cowgirls compete."
The rodeo featured various activities, including horseback riding, calf feeding and even a tractor hayride. With over 70 children participating this year, the turnout was among the largest in the event's history. Every child received a medal and a T-shirt, ensuring each participant felt like a champion.
Families gathered to cheer on the young cowboys and cowgirls, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, excitement and community.
The Special Ranch Rodeo is just one of many events organized by the Heart O' Texas Fair. It showcases the community's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where every child can shine.
