Aramark, Goldstar Transit to lay off hundreds of employees at Baylor, Robinson ISD

Documents from the Texas Workforce Commission show that over 1,000 employees would be laid off between the two companies.

WACO, Texas — Two companies are set to lay off over 1,000 employees in Central Texas at the end of May, according to documents from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices from the TWC, both Aramark, a food service company, and Goldstar Transit, a locally-run and operated school transportation provider, will each lay off hundreds of workers due to not being retained as service providers at Baylor University and Robinson ISD respectively.

A notice from Aramark stated the company would not be retained to provide services at Baylor beyond May 31, 2024. All employees assigned to that account will reportedly be affected, with Aramark saying it expects to "terminate the employment" of its employees at Baylor.

According to Aramark, employees who are affected by the change of service have been notified. The company said most displaced workers typically have "continued employment opportunities" with the incoming provider.

The layoffs at Aramark will reportedly affect 755 total employees.

Goldstar Transit said in a notice that Robinson ISD intends to change providers to Texas Rural Student Transportation to take over the entire operation, and Waco ISD intends to take over the entire operation of the company for its services.

Goldstar said that though employees will need to apply with the new provider, their understanding is that the district intends to hire all or "substantially all" of the current workforce.

The change will reportedly affect the facilities located at 500 West Lyndale Avenue in Robinson and 2001 South 18th St. in Waco on June 1 and is expected to be permanent and affect all employees.

The layoffs at Goldstar Transit will reportedly affect 500 total employees.
