Amber Alert Network to commemorate missing loved ones with county proclamation

The AANBV will be hosting a community event to commemorate missing persons.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — The Amber Alert of the Brazos Valley works all year long to help people find their loved ones, they are going to be hosting a community event to commemorate those who have still not been found.

A collaboration of county officials and local nonprofits have come together to create a special event for the community.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have our county judges sign a proclamation every year designating a specific day as missing in the Brazos valley say this particular year it's going to be Friday, April 26,” said AANBV Executive Director, Chuck Fleeger.

The event is inviting elected officials, law enforcement representatives and family members of the missing to attend.

Fleeger explained, “We take this one day to shine light on it and remember that every single day there are families that go to bed at night not knowing where their loved one is. We highlight the number of missing children reports in 2023 and those numbers will fluctuate. Our activity has increased and that’s not because an increase in missing persons, but I do believe we as a community are doing better in shining the light on this issue in our community.”

One mother is speaking on her daughter who has been missing for over a decade.

“Our speaker his year is Jo Ann Lowitzer, whose daughter Ali went missing in 2010 in Spring, Texas and she continues to be an advocate for her daughter to bring her daughter back home,” Fleeger said.

The network will also be discussing the importance of appropriate response to all reports of missing children and the value of partnerships between law enforcement and missing persons organizations.

The event is free to the public and will take place at Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Thursday, April 25, at 1:15 p.m.
