KILLEEN, Texas — In response to frigid temperatures, the City of Killeen has joined forces with Liberty Christian Center to establish an emergency overnight warming center on Thursday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Dec. 29.

Liberty Christian Center, located at 4107 Westcliff Rd, will open its doors at 8 p.m. on both days and remain operational overnight until 8 a.m. If the service sees no utilization by 11:30 p.m., the warming center will close.

To help with transportation for individuals seeking shelter, Charis Church has volunteered to operate routes from the Greater Killeen Chamber parking lot (1 Santa Fe Plaza) to Liberty Christian Center, making rounds from 8-8:30 p.m.

Activation of warming centers is based on the forecasted temperature or wind chill factor dropping below 32 degrees. The decision is made promptly after talking to the National Weather Service, no later than 3 p.m. on the day of planned operation.

City facilities such as City Hall, libraries, the Recreation Center, and police headquarters are available for public use during normal business hours, allowing residents to seek refuge and warmth.
