'A cultural epicenter' | Grand opening ceremony of Hotel Herringbone in Downtown Waco

If you've ever driven in Downtown Waco, you've likely seen the building with big colorful containers. That's now been transformed into a new place to stay.

WACO, Texas — A building that was made out of colorful shipping containers has now been turned into something unique for locals and visitors.

It's called Hotel Herringbone located in Downtown Waco on 4th Street. It's a luxury boutique hotel. The grand opening ceremony was held on Saturday, April 27.

"It is distinctively Waco but uniquely the Hotel Herringbone," Hotel General Manager Jay Saucedo said. "There's something here for everyone."

The hotel has 21 rooms with prices ranging from under $300 to up to $1,000 a night.

There's also a rooftop bar and a ballroom.

Locals and tourists can also check out the live music venue, retail shops and a fine dining restaurant.

The design of the hotel is made up of around 100 40-by-8 foot shipping containers. The process started over two years ago.

"This was originally going to be called the containery," Saucedo told 6 News. "That project did fall under unfortunately. Our company, RAD LAB architecture firm and Lucky Find Hospitality came together to develop the luxury boutique hotel that you're seeing now along with four food and beverage outlets, activated entertainment space and 12 retailers."

Developers were intrigued when they came and saw the project. It wasn't only this that drew them in, it was also the people.

"There was an energy in the city," Architect & Developer Philip Auchettl of RAD LAB said. "We felt like Waco was on the cusp of something special. We felt very honored to be a part of that."

It's all to help contribute to a growing downtown in Waco.

"With Chip and Joanna, they really paved the way to create this massive change and hope for the neighborhood," Saucedo said. "We took a little bit of what we have from the West Coast from the East Coast and carried it into a cultural epicenter for Waco."
