'Keep the good momentum going' | Jim Holmes reflects on the race for Waco Mayor

While unofficial, Holmes sits comfortably with 71% of the vote.

WACO, Texas — Waco unofficially has their new mayor. Jim Holmes, who has seemingly defeated Aubrey Robertson and Eric Brown with 71% of the vote.

Holmes is no stranger to Waco. He was appointed to Waco City Council in 2016. He was re-elected to the Council by District 5 voters in 2017, and again in 2021.

"There's a lot of good momentum going on in the city right now and I've been part of that as a councilman for the last eight years," Holmes told 6 News. "They've evidently liked what I do on councils, so if I can continue that not only for District 5 but for the entire city."

It's a city that Holmes holds close to his heart.

"It's a great place to raise a family, a great place to go to church," Holmes added.

If elected as the Mayor of Waco, Holmes will replace current Mayor Dillon Meek and he's liked what's been accomplished so far.

"A lot of great things happening on our streets and sidewalks, we have all the programs going on to make sure they continue a lot of great strides," Holmes said. "And economic development with these new businesses coming into town and also the existing small businesses here in Waco trying to try to help them out. We've also been able to lower taxes and get more efficient operationally."

It's things like this Holmes wants to continue, but he has even more plans to keep Waco great.

"I hope that we can on the public safety front, get more relational policing," Holmes said. "I want to make sure that's a good initiative on our streets and sidewalks. We have to continue to spend our resources and improving our infrastructure. It's so important. And then I want to make sure that we keep the good momentum going on our economic development. With all the new businesses coming to town, early connecting those new jobs. It's all about getting new jobs into town, and trading financial security for our citizens. So, as these new jobs come in, I would be more selective on the types of businesses that come in and be more intentional about connecting those jobs, those businesses, to our existing ones to help them share in the prosperity."

Holmes congratulated other opponents saying Robertson and Brown are two great gentlemen that are both passionate about the city.

He says the community will be able to count on them for leadership in the future.
