Suspect charged with manslaughter after death in Killeen on Christmas Day

The suspect is reportedly being held at the Bell County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

KILLEEN, Texas — A suspect has been charged with manslaughter as Killeen Police investigate a death on Christmas Day, according to the Killeen Police Department.

KPD stated 20-year-old Jeremiah Lafredrick Matthews was arraigned on Wednesday, Dec. 27 after being charged with manslaughter. Matthews is reportedly being held at the Bell County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

According to Killeen Police, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of N. College Street around 2:52 p.m. on Dec. 25 in reference to a 911 call about a man who had been shot. 

When officers arrived, they reportedly found the man who had been shot and performed life-saving measures. 

KPD said the victim died of his injuries at the scene.

According to Killeen PD, the suspect, Matthews, was arrested on Dec. 26 and charged with manslaughter. 

Next of kin of the 17-year-old victim has been notified, said KPD.

No further information has been released at this time. An investigation is reportedly ongoing.
