6 Copperas Cove elementary schools ranked some of Texas' best in new report

The U.S. News and World Report looked at 45,000 elementary schools across the state and said these six schools are some of Texas' best in education excellence.

COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Six Copperas Cove ISD elementary schools are being recognized as some of Texas' best when it comes to education excellence, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The organization looked at 45,000 elementary schools in the state. In its report, CCISD's six campuses -- House Creek Elementary, Clements/Parsons Elementary, Hettie Halstead Elementary, Martin Walker Elementary, Fairview/Jewell Elementary-- were ranked in the top 40% of schools nationwide.

“I am incredibly proud of the efforts of our schools,” said Amanda Crawley, Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services.

According to the report:

  • House Creek Elementary ranked 590th in Texas, performing “above expectations” in reading and “well above expectations” in math.
  • Clements/Parsons Elementary ranked 726th, performing “above expectations” in reading and “well above expectations” in math.
  • Hettie Halstead Elementary ranked 911th, also performing “above expectations” in reading and “well above expectations” in math.
  • Martin Walker Elementary ranked 1,036th, performing “above expectations” in math.
  • Fairview/Jewell Elementary ranked 1,098th, performing “above expectations” in both reading and math.

These rankings and awards are based on the most recent available accountability data from the Texas Education Agency. All of the elementary schools were either “A” rated or approaching an “A” rating.

“Our students and school staff show passion and dedication for not just education, but our students every day," Crawley said. "Regardless of where a school falls in the rankings, we continue to work on improving our systems to support student achievement over time, in order to ensure the highest possible quality of education in our community.”

In middle schools, out of more than 22,000, Copperas Cove Jr. High ranked 651st and also earned the U.S. News Best of Middle Schools award badge for education excellence.

“These awards are a true testament to the work of our students and of our staff in CCISD,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joe Burns said. “We work hard to educate the whole child and focus on growing students in to wonderful adults and are thankful to the U.S. News & World Report for recognizing this work.”
