Balcones Distilling switching from whiskey to sanitizer to help in fight against coronavirus

Balcones Distilling said it will produce more than 18,000 bottles of hand sanitizer by the end of March.

WACO, Texas — Waco's Balcones Distilling has stopped making its whiskey and is now in the process of making hand sanitizer to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to spokeswoman Matalee Reed.

Balcones will produce more than 18,000 bottles by the end of March and will be donating the sanitizer to those in need, including first responders, hospitals and other essential businesses both in Texas and across the country.

As the distillery continues with production, the team will be identifying additional organizations in need of hand sanitizer, as well as other methods to support the community, Reed said.

For organizations requesting hand sanitizer or more information, email info@balconesdistilling.com.

Balcones closed the distillery to the public until June 12. They are still producing whiskey but have currently shifted to making the hand sanitizer. An earlier version of this story said they had stopped production.
