6 FIX | Woman fears losing home, not able to be insured after extreme hail damage

Janice Woodall hired a contractor to fix up her home. Now her mortgage company needs proof it's been repaired but her contractor won't provide her the papers.

MOODY, Texas — Janice Woodall of Moody, TX fears she will lose her home if she can't get it insured soon.

Woodall has waited two months to get the necessary paperwork from the contractor that fixed up her house.

Woodall's home was destroyed by a hail storm in 2021. She hired Mario Licea to repair it. Woodall said Licea did a great job and everything is paid for but he won't give her the papers that prove the house is fixed.

"I guess it's partially my fault I didn't get full receipts for everything," said Woodall.

Woodall has reached out to Licea multiple times through texts and emails. Each time he told Woodall he was going to get the papers to her but never did.

Now she says he's stopped responding to her.

6 News reached out to Licea. He said he was going to get the papers to Woodall soon. His most recent text reads: "Ok. I will send it to you today". That was at 11:08 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14.

According to the Texas Department of Insurance, a home in Texas does not need to be insured, but if you owe money on it the lender will require you to have insurance.

As for the insurance company Woodall works with, they cannot provide coverage until they know the home is repaired.

So Woodall is stuck in limbo. She's afraid if she doesn't get proof soon, she will be on the streets.

"Please, I can't live on the street. All you have to do is just give me a copy," said Woodall.
