Bell County working to fill vacant judge seat after Claudia Brown's removal

County commissioners will meet March 1 to interview candidates for the position. Judge David Blackburn said they may make a decision that same day.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — Bell County commissioners took action Tuesday morning in filling the vacant Justice of the Peace position, since Claudia Brown was removed from the position on Feb. 13.

Brown was the first public official to be removed from office in Bell County in 33 years. The county's democratic party chair said she will return to the court with three potential candidates to be considered by Monday. 

Judge David Blackburn said he wants to fill the position as soon as possible. 

"We have a had a fairly high degree of interest expressed in this position, but we will certainly wait based on the process that was just approved for the nominations that we received from the Democratic Party chair," he said. 

County commissioners will meet March 1 to interview candidates for the position. 

Blackburn said they may make a decision that same day.
