Lockdown lifted after false report of student with weapon at Lake Belton HS

Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the suspect and took him into custody.

TEMPLE, Texas — Lake Belton High School was placed on a precautionary lockdown on Friday, April 19 after the district received a report that a student had a weapon.

There were no reported injuries, according to the Temple Police Department.

According to TPD, officers were called to the school at around 8:30 a.m. in regards to a potential weapon on campus. The anonymous caller reportedly described the potential suspect.

Upon arrival, officers found the juvenile suspect and took him into custody, said the department.

After searching the premises, police said there was no weapon, no shots had been fired and no one was injured. TPD said officers continued to do a protective sweep of the entire campus "to ensure the safety of those inside".

Police said there have been pictures circulating online that are being represented as the alleged suspect, but TPD said all of the pictures they have seen are of Temple Police Officers who responded to the scene, including from plain clothes assignments. A picture of a person armed with a rifle wearing a police vest was reportedly a TPD detective who had responded.

The lockdown began before 9 a.m. It was lifted a little before 9:30 a.m., according to the district.

Temple Police Chief Shawn Reynolds gave the following statement:

"We take threats to our student’s safety seriously. Our agency will work tirelessly to see that anyone who threatens a school campus and our students is criminally charged. I would like to thank our TPD officers, BISD administration and staff, Morgan’s Point and the Bell County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance this morning.”
