Midway High School recieved $133,000 for Plane Building Program

WACO, Texas — Midway ISD announced that the Midway Education Foundation presented $133,000 to support the Tango Flight program at Midway High School on Wednesday, March 13.

According to the school district, Midway is the twelfth school in Texas to collaborate with Tango Flight, which is offering students an opportunity to learn about aerospace engineering and aviation mechanics.

Midway ISD's Director of College and Career Readiness Jess Wheeler stated, "Through our CTE Program (Career and Technology Education) we want to enable kids to have skill sets that really develop and support what McLennan County does right here. We hope that this program is and will be a model for other programs that will be beneficial to students."

Below is a breakdown of where the $133,000 came from:

  • $89,962 from Midway Education Foundation
  • $25,000 from the Jim & Lynnette Allmon Foundation
  • $19,000 from Blackhawk Aerospace, TSTC Foundation, Haggard & Stocking, Baylor University Institute for Air Science and Col. Joe McKethan.

The school district says that students who are enrolled in Tango Flight get the tools, knowledge and hands-on experience to build and fly a two-seat FAA certified airplane. The plane will then be sold to fund the next project.

"This program is very exciting and an incredible opportunity for our students and our district. So, as we take to the skies with Tango Flight, let us remember that the sky is not the limit - it's just the beginning," Wheeler said.
