Clifton PD: Whitney nurse who stole morphine from patient sentenced to 4 years in prison

The nurse was arrested in April 2022.

CLIFTON, Texas — The Clifton Police Department announced that 43-year-old Ashley Kay Bidwell from Whitney, Texas was sentenced to four years in prison after stealing morphine from a hospice patient back in April 2022.

According to the department, Bidwill plead guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison for the injury to the elderly charge as well as two years of probation for a drug diversion charge on Nov. 7.

Bidwell was a nurse at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home and had taken morphine from a patient while they were on their deathbed.

Bidwell ended up overdosing on the morphine, which is what prompted the investigation as she told police where she had gotten the medication.

According to an arrest affidavit, Bidwell had replaced the morphine she stole with syringes filled with cranberry juice, which were then given to a patient over the age of 65 who was unable to speak.

Bidwell was arrested and booked in the Bosque County Jail with a bond originally set at $70,000, but then raised to $150,000.
