Woman arrested in Florida for involvement in murder of Killeen bus driver

A second person has been charged in the October 2014 murder of Killeen bus driver Christine Watkins.

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. - A second person has been charged in the October 2014 murder of Killeen bus driver Christine Watkins.

Charges were issued Wednesday, July 26, 2017 for 64-year-old Jo Ann Wilbert. She is charged with Capital Murder for Remuneration and Solicitation for Capital Murder for her involvement in the Watkin’s murder.

On the morning of October 20, 2014, officers received call of shots being fired in the area of the 1400 block of Pine Drive. When officers arrived to the scene, they found 64-year-old Watkins in her driveway with a gunshot wound.

With numbers leads, Killeen police detectives were able to identify the first suspect involved in the murder as 30-year-old Andrew Lenard Hardesty. A complaint was issued on October 1, 2015 charging Hardesty with murder.

Detectives had been working with Brevard County, Florida Sheriff’s Detectives and traveled to Merritt Island, Florida.

Both agencies took Wilbert into custody without incident and she is currently in the Brevard County jail awaiting extradition.
