RICHFIELD, Minn. — Best Buy is recalling over 287,000 air fryers that were sold across the United States and Canada due to multiple reports of overheating and glass shattering as well as six incidents of the devices catching on fire.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall with a notice on Thursday saying that Insignia Air Fryers and Insignia Air Fryer Ovens, model numbers NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, and NS-AF10DSS2 are the ones impacted by the recall.
These models are getting recalled because they can overheat, which has caused the handles to melt or break, leading to fire and burn hazards. The air fryer ovens have overheated as well and caused the glass on the door to shatter, leading to fire, burn and laceration hazards, according to the notice.
The company has received 24 reports of overheating/melting or glass shattering, including six reports of air fryers catching fire. There have been no reports of injuries or property damage, the CPSC said.
About 187,400 of the air fryers have been sold in the U.S. and roughly 99,900 were sold in Canada, the CPSC said.
Those who have these cooking devices should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens. Consumers should not return the recalled air fryers or air fryer ovens to Best Buy stores. Best Buy has contacted all known buyers directly, the notice read.
To receive a refund, people can contact Best Buy at 800-566-7498 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. central time Monday through Friday or register online at recallrtr.com/airfryer. People can also go online at bestbuy.com/product/recalls or bestbuy.com and click on “Product Recalls” under the “Order and Purchase” column at the bottom of the page for more information.
A refund will be given in the form of a refund check or a Best Buy store credit, according to the notice.
These air fryers were manufactured in China and sold at Best Buy nationally and online from November 2021 through November 2023 for between $32 and $180.
